Nervous Patients

Many people can be nervous about visiting the dentist. Indeed, nerves is one of the main reasons many people put off seeking dental treatment, more so than cost, time, or a range of other factors. That’s why at Upper Berkeley Dental Practice we are committed to helping nervous patients feel at ease.

Our dentist Jo has a reputation for the gentleness of her treatments and many patients comment on how painlessly she can administer a local anaesthetic.

In addition, we will always be sure to talk through any treatments that may be required, giving you the chance to ask any questions you may have. You are also welcome to bring a friend or family member to accompany you when you are having any treatment.

For some patients, having slightly stronger sedation can really help put you at ease. These treatments will be administered by a fully qualified anaesthetist and will make your appointment 20 to 30 minutes longer than standard. The instructions will be sent to you in advance.

Sedation will mean you are calm and relaxed and while conscious throughout treatment will not experience any pain or be aware of the treatments.

If you opt for sedation from the anaesthetist, you will have to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment to escort you home, as you may not be fit to drive for a short time. They should be able to stay with you for the evening after treatment.

Oral sedation will also incur an extra charge, but this will be specified before treatment commences in your treatment plan.
